Tattoo – Original Painted Sign
Bold, vibrant and full of traditional fairground character, this original hand painted Tattoo sign is a wonderful example of classic signwriting with a playful twist.
The lettering is painted into an arch using Bright Red, complete with a striking Perfect Purple stepped-away block that gives the design real depth and presence. Joby has then added characterful highlights throughout the lettering, creating movement and bringing the sign beautifully to life.
The background is especially personal. Painted in a bespoke dodgem green, a colour not available in Joby’s standard palette, it is the colour used by the very dodgems that travelled with Carter’s Steam Fair. Softly blended into darker green at the edges, it creates a glowing backdrop that perfectly showcases the bold lettering while carrying a little piece of fairground history.
Whether displayed in a tattoo studio, creative space, home bar or as part of a vintage sign collection, this handcrafted piece celebrates the timeless artistry of traditional signwriting.
As with every original sign from Joby’s workshop, this is a genuine one-off, hand-painted using traditional techniques and made to be enjoyed for generations.
