This piece perfectly showcases the artistry behind hand lettering. Painted on a graceful arc, the design began with two simple construction lines and rough guide marks before the brush was allowed to take over, resulting in lettering that feels both confident and full of movement. The rich red lettering is enhanced with delicate internal accents, a stepped-away block and subtle highlights beneath, giving the sign depth and a wonderful sense of life.
The background is just as eye-catching. Painted onto a cream base, Joby created the textured effect by introducing green paint while the surface was still wet, before zig-zagging a large brush through the colours. The result is a lively, almost glowing backdrop that perfectly reflects the creative energy and character of Bristol itself.
Framed with a simple Octopus Blue border, this one-of-a-kind sign measures approximately 57.5 x 24 cm and makes a striking addition to any home, studio or collection of traditional signwriting.
