Somerset staff required: work with Joby in Wells and Street

Joby has been busy relocating his signwriting workshop to Wells, Somerset. Not only will there be a new location for his traditional signwriting courses, it will also be a new working environment for Joby. He is looking to recruit a small team who can support him on a part time basis to help bring some of his exciting new projects to life.

What kind of projects would Joby Carter like support with?

Joby is passionate about keeping the traditional skills of signwriting alive which he does via his signwriting books, fine art prints of his hand painted signs and his unique traditional signwriting courses which attract a global audience. He also has a strong social media presence on Instagram and TikTok.
He currently has two roles he is looking to recruit:

  • Admin assistant/personal assistant
  • Content creator/ videographer

He is looking for people with an interest in supporting traditional skills and experience in the relevant areas. We have included more about each job role below.

Joby Carter admin assistant/personal assistant

Paints in Jobys workshop

£12 p/h.
Part time hours 10 per week, 9.30-11.30 daily with some flexibility.
Location: just outside Wells, potential relocation to Street.

Start date – as soon as possible (ideally in October 2024).
This is permanent position.

Regular tasks:

  • Answering emails/customer service
  • Stock managemement for in person store and online store/s
  • Packaging and shipping sales from online store/s
  • Managing calendars
  • Forwarding invoices to the accountant

Adhoc tasks when required

  • Adding new products to online store/s
  • Proof reading newsletter emails, new products descriptions, blog posts, etc created by our marketing team
  • Event organisation assistance for occasional open days etc.
  • Support with Joby’s courses: ordering supplies, ordering lunches managing dietary requirements of attendees, creating registers

Required skills

Computer literacy – Outlook, MS office,
Teaching will be provided for basic website management tasks (Wordpress & Etsy)

This role would suit a film or creative media student looking to gain experience of creating videos for a popular social media account.

Hourly rate starts from minimum wage, rate negotiable depending on experience.

Hours up to 10 per week but flexible depending on Joby’s availability.

Location: Mobile, central Wells at present, relocation to Street. There may be some event work at different locations too.

Start date– as soon as possible (ideally in October 2024)
This is permanent position.

This role includes the following tasks:

  • Taking photos and videos of Joby painting in his workshop, or of him talking to camera about his work. Imagery and videos are then shared with the marketing team for use on social media, in emails and on his website.
  • Content could include timelapses of Joby signwriting, shooting clips to edit into a reel for Instagram or hosting a live video with Joby and reading out comments from viewers to him while he paints
  • Content can be created on an up to date smartphone but must look professional and be of good quality. Own equipment must be used for capturing and editing.
  • Content should be created with Joby’s target audience in mins (training will be provided)
  • Some editing support can be provided.
  • Flexible hours, can vary week by week
  • Platforms to create content for: Joby’s YouTube channel, Joby’s Instagram, TikTok. Images taken are used for Mailchimp and Wordpress.

Retail assistant: temporary contract pre Christmas

Work with Joby in his ‘pop-up’ signwriting and gift shop in Wells.

Hourly rate: £ UK minimum wage

Hours: various available across 7 days from 10-5pm. November through to 24 Dec

Location: Wells town centre based

  • Weekday and weekend work available
  • Experience in serving customers, using PDQ machine to take transactions and other general retail responsibilities
  • Training on products given
  • Interest in traditional skills and painting is a bonus
