Sh*ts & Giggles

This fine art print features hand painted lettering (Shits & Giggles) which was drawn and painted by Joby Carter in his UK workshop using traditional signwriting techniques. There are no computers or modern shortcuts used in Joby’s signwriting workshop: he lets the brush do the work.
Once complete, Joby’s artwork was then professionally scanned and giclee printed on museum grade fine art paper (310 GSM) using lightfast inks, ready for you to display on your walls at home. This 10×10 inch print would make an ideal addition to a gallery wall feature for anyone with a love of word art or traditional lettering.

Please note: This print is created from a scan of a hand painted original and it has not been digitally airbrushed. You may see minor imperfections from the paint brush or varnish which are part of the authentic charm of handpainted lettering.
The overall paper size is 10 inches x 10 inches and it will fit in standard sized frames available from High Street shops.

About this lettering:

This lettering design is Joby putting his creative twist on things and playing with styles and letterforms. The top word is painted in a style known as ‘Ship’ (an alphabet Joby features in Signwriting Tips, Tricks and inspiration’). The ampersand is freestyle, and the ‘giggles’ lettering is akin to ‘Chair o Plane’, an alphabet from his second book, All the Fonts of the Fair.
The lettering has an effect called ‘mock block’ which means that the darker colour at the bottom is the same colour as the board it was painted. The shadow implies a block is there without you having to paint it. There are only actually three colours used on this design. A traditional optical illusion used by signwriters through the decades.
