Dodgem Deco Alphabet
These hand painted letters were created for the fairground style alphabets which feature in Joby Carter’s book, All the Fonts of the Fair. This style of lettering known as ‘Dodgem Deco’ was created by Joby Carter in an Art Deco inspired style which featured on the Dodgems at Carters Steam Fair.
Each letter is one of a kind and hand painted by Joby using enamel paint on aluminium composite board. The final letters were varnished and framed in house and will be dispatched flat in a protective cardboard wrap.
The overall size of the framed letter is 233mm x 226mm x 12mm.

Joby Carter says:
“When I was doing my apprenticeship in the 1990s with Stan Wilkinson, my dad wanted a design for our dodgem ride, parts of which dated from the 1940s. He’d found some art deco lettering that was so crazy you could barely read it and he wanted some lettering creating that was half way in between that and Broadway, a typical Art Deco font in our Letraset book. I drew it all out and at the time, Stan painted it on the ride. For the book I’ve finessed the whole alphabet and it’s one of the alphabets I’m most proud of as it’s very original. The letters are painted with serval colours and have a cream outline and black shadow.”
