Joby Carter says:

"I remember being about 8 or 9 and watching Chris Hopes paint the lettering BRITTANNIA and COLUMBIA on our Steam Yachts. It’s where my love of signwriting began – watching it go from nothing to something beautiful. I realised that you could make letters look pretty and I’ve been hooked ever since!

This is a complex three dimensional letter style. It was created over several stages including painting the basic letter shape, painting different colours then adding a gradient with a second coat, adding in the decorative flourishes, adding the block and gilding and varnishing it, adding shading to the block using oil paint mixed with varnish, adding the shadow and then the outlines."
