Joby has been invited to speak at Birmingham Design Festival, one of the UK's leading celebrations of the design industry. Founded in 2017, the festival has grown into a flagship event that brings the local, national and international design community together each year.
This year's theme is change, and the festival has placed new emphasis on analogue, handmade work, celebrating physical craft alongside digital design. It's a natural fit for traditional signwriting.
Joby shares the line-up with artist Tom Hicks of Black Country Type, analogue photographer Kate Hook and ceramicist Ayesha Bibi of Sketch Avenue. He will talk about how change has shaped his career, from growing up on a travelling vintage funfair to how signwriting went from a dying art to a craft people are queuing up to learn.
The event takes place at The Crossing, Digbeth, Birmingham. Tickets are available on the event organisers website via the link below.
Joby is making plans to open his workshop at selected times between 23 November and 23 December. If you're looking for a unique Christmas gift, or would like to stock up on signwriting supplies you'll be able to do this in person during this period.
Details will be shared on Joby's weekly newsletter: sign up to find out more.
