Description

FARE 1D takes its inspiration from the sort of hand-painted fare and price signs that would once have been a familiar sight at old fairgrounds and showgrounds.

Painted on a traditional shield-shaped piece of aluminium, Joby has used a combination of classic fairground colours and techniques to give this little sign plenty of character. The lettering begins with purple, with Brilliant Red and Kingsway Red worked over the top, alongside a stepped-away block to give the letters depth.

The border brings together Swanee Pink and Dodgem Pink, carefully blended to create the distinctive fairground finish. Joby has then lightly aged the black background with brown, taking away some of the newness and giving the piece the feel of a sign that might have been around for years.

At approximately 31 x 31 cm, it's a charming little piece of traditional signwriting with plenty of old-fashioned fairground character Ð perfect for displaying at home, in a workshop or as part of a collection.
