Don’t Be A Dick - Original Painted Sign

DON'T BE A DICK - fairly straightforward advice that, as Joby says, would make the world a better place if everyone followed it.

This larger piece is hand-painted on three-quarter-inch plywood, with a Bright Red background surrounded by a simple black border. The lettering is painted in a Tuscan curveside style, with the different-sized letters working around one another to give the whole composition a lovely sense of flow and movement.

The main lettering is painted in Octopus Blue, with Perfect Purple dots and drops adding detail throughout. A Dodgem Blue stepped-away block falls to the right of the letters, with darker blue highlights giving them another layer of depth.

The changing scale and positioning of the words is what really makes this piece work, making it a great example of how traditional signwriting can make even the simplest message into something full of character.

Hand-painted on plywood and measuring approximately 53 x 56 cm, it's a bold, colourful sign with a sentiment that's difficult to argue with. A useful daily reminder for the home, workshop, office or perhaps a gift for someone who needs reminding more than most.
