Guest Workshop: Fileteado with Gustavo Ferrari: 10-11 May 2025

In this special, two day guest workshop with Gustavo Ferrari, a signpainter, visual artist and a historian from Buenos Aires, you’ll gain first-hand experience of the complete technique of Fileteado, a traditional decorative style from Buenos Aires, Argentina which was declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2015. You’ll learn the history of Fileteado and the drawing techniques of its classical elements which include flowers, ribbons and acanthus leaves. During the course Gustavo will guide you through the structural step by step approach of a work from a pounced pattern to the flat colours, then shadows, lights and highlights to enable you to paint a complete sign using acrylic paints and special Fileteado brushes.

Joby Carter says:

“Fileteado is an incredible folk-art from another country which I’m rather fascinated with. Despite the thousands of miles separating Argentina from the UK, I’ve always thought that it wouldn’t look out of place on a traditional English fairground ride, which is remarkable considering the distance. I’m so pleased that Gustavo is sharing his skills here in the UK at my new workshop in Somerset. This decorative style has a global appeal: all are welcome to attend!”
